This is a sketch I did in 1991...wow...a lifetime ago. I found it a couple of months ago while going through stacks of old drawings and pastels. It made me smile like a goofy child since the skin pattern I gave this Triceratops is almost 100% identical to actual Triceratops skin as demonstrated by the discovery of some nice specimens on the Zerbst Ranch in Wyoming. It gets better...in the summer of 2002, my wife an I saw a specimen that Pete Larson of the Black Hills Institute was excavating in the field. It had skin! I snapped a bunch of photos and forgot about them until a coupl eof months ago when I saw thast same specimen at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. WOW! Trippy stuff! From drawing a Triceratops with hypothetical skin in '91 to seeing actual Triceratops skin in the field in 2002 to seeing it again on display for the world in 2012. Makes me wonder what 2022 will have in store for me and my old friend Triceratops!
